CLOSENESS
Privacy policy

We collect nothing from the app.

Closeness keeps your log on your watch, encrypted. It has no internet permission and sends nothing to us. This page explains the details.

Last updated: 20 October 2026. Applies to the Closeness watch app and to closeness.pages.dev.

Controller

Mateusz Kolarz, sole proprietorship "Mateusz Kolarz Fotografia", Lublin, Poland, NIP 6551913254, e-mail kontakt@dialforge.dev. If you write to that address, use it only for questions about Closeness. You do not need to tell us anything about your sessions.

What the app stores

Closeness stores sessions (start time, time zone offset, duration, average and maximum heart rate, estimated calories, solo, partner or group, optional tags), partner labels and colours, and your settings. While a session runs, the app also saves a checkpoint of it every 30 seconds, so the session can be resumed if the app closes; the checkpoint is removed when the session is saved or discarded. All of it is kept in the app's storage on your watch. Sessions and partners are encrypted with AES-256, and history is additionally protected by your PIN if you set one.

What the encryption does and does not do: it protects your log against someone who copies the raw storage of the watch. It does not protect against someone who has your watch, plenty of time and can open the app. Without a PIN the key is tied to the watch, so anyone who can use your unlocked watch can open the history. The PIN is what guards history and statistics against a person holding the watch. Partner labels, sessions that wait to be added while the history is locked, and the checkpoint of a running session use the watch key, not the PIN; the PIN locks the screens that show partner details. This means "Forgot PIN" lets a person holding the watch delete the saved history and then see the waiting sessions and the partner labels. Opening History after a session moves the waiting sessions under the PIN. A 4-digit PIN is a short code, 6 digits give more. If other people can pick up your watch, set a PIN.

Partner labels are up to 8 characters that you pick or type. Use letters or initials, not other people's real names.

The app reads heart rate from the watch sensor, and weight, age and gender from your Garmin user profile, only to estimate calories on the watch. It does not send these values anywhere.

We, the developer, have no access to your log. We cannot see it, restore it or delete it remotely.

Optional copy to Garmin Connect

This is off by default. If you turn it on before a session and then choose "Save in Connect", the watch saves a standard activity file (type Training, name "Cardio": time, duration, heart rate, calories). It contains no partner labels and no tags. The file syncs to your Garmin account like any other workout and is processed by Garmin under Garmin's own privacy policy (published on garmin.com). Apps you connected to your Garmin account (for example running or training platforms) may receive it as well. We do not receive it. How to keep such activities private: Keep it private on Garmin.

Purchase

Closeness is sold only in the Garmin Connect IQ Store. Garmin processes the payment and the purchase under its own terms and privacy policy. From Garmin we receive sales and payout reports needed for accounting. They do not contain anything you recorded in the app.
