CLOSENESS
FAQ

Questions, answered plainly.

What happens if I uninstall or reinstall the app?

Your history is deleted. The log lives only in the app's storage on the watch, and Garmin removes that storage with the app. The same happens if you move to a new watch.

Is my log safe without a PIN?

It is encrypted with a key tied to your watch. That stops someone who copies the raw storage, but anyone who can use your unlocked watch can open the app and the history. If other people can pick up your watch, set a PIN; 6 digits are stronger than 4. Partner labels stay visible on the start list, so use letters, not real names.

I forgot my PIN. What now?

Enter a wrong PIN 5 times. The lock screen that follows offers "Forgot PIN": choose it and reset the history. Saved history is gone after that, because it is encrypted with a key that only your PIN opens. Sessions that were still waiting to be added (finished while the history was locked) are kept and go into the new history. Partners and settings stay. Keep in mind that anyone holding your watch can do the same reset: they will not see the saved history, but they will see the waiting sessions and the partner labels. If you open History once after a session, the waiting sessions move into the history that the PIN protects. Nobody, including us, can recover the PIN.

Is there a backup, export or sync between watches?

No, on purpose. A backup has to live somewhere other than your watch, and that is one more place your log could leak from. The optional Garmin Connect copy saves only a neutral "Cardio" activity, not your partners or tags.

How are calories calculated?

They are an estimate. The app uses a published formula based on heart rate (Keytel, 2005) with the weight, age and gender from your Garmin user profile, and limits the result to a sensible range. Seconds without a heart rate reading count as light activity. Treat the number as a rough guide, not a measurement.

Does a session count toward Training Load or Body Battery?

By default Closeness saves nothing to Garmin Connect, so it does not feed Training Load. Body Battery, stress and all-day heart rate are measured by the watch itself, so they react to any raised heart rate regardless of the app.

Does the session stop if the screen turns off?

No. Time is counted from the start, so it stays correct while the screen is dark. If the watch closes the app during a session, Closeness offers to continue or finish it the next time you open it.

Does it need my phone or the internet?

No. Closeness works on the watch alone and has no internet permission. Your phone is only needed once, to install it from the Connect IQ Store.

* The app supports these models, but Garmin may not offer paid apps on them in the store yet. That depends on Garmin's own list, which Garmin updates over time.

Not supported: black and white screens (Instinct 2, Instinct 3 Solar, Instinct E and similar), Forerunner 55, and older watches that cannot run Connect IQ 5.

Can I get my money back?

Yes. Garmin lets you return a paid Connect IQ app within 48 hours of purchase. The refund goes through Garmin, following Garmin's refund process for the Connect IQ Store.

Why is there no free trial?

Garmin's trial mode needs the developer to sell the full version outside the store, on their own payment page. Closeness is sold only through Garmin, and the app never goes online, so there is no trial. The 48-hour return window gives you the same chance to try it.

Who is it for?

Adults 18+, alone, with one partner or more. Log only sessions that everyone involved agreed to. Closeness is a private wellness log for informational purposes only and is not a medical device.

What can a partner see?

Only what you show. The Show screen displays a single session: its time, the partner label (a letter or a short label you typed) or "just me", and average heart rate. If you set a PIN, history and stats stay behind it.
